Zoo Education Programme
The Zoological Park offers an all-in-one experience that exposes visitors to various aspects of nature and educates them about animal identification, distribution, characteristics, behaviour, habitat, adaptation and many other fascinating facts. Through Zoo School's hands-on educational and training programmes, people are empowered to contribute to creating a stable and sustainable ecosystem on our planet.
The Zoo School at Arignar Anna Zoological Park works with the mission to educate the community and Zoo visitors on the conservation of wild flora and fauna by supporting the conservation and preservation of natural resources. The Zoo education encourages the citizens to take an active role in this global mission.

Species Ambassador Programme
Target audience – All public
Duration – 5 to 7 hours
Medium - Offline or Online

First of its a kind initiative to highlight the importance of lesser-known wild species in our country which are at risk due to human-wildlife conflict and for the species which are at risk.

Zoo Ambassador Programme
Target audience – School & college students
Eligibility – Class 5 & above, Degree
Duration – 3 days – Summer camp, 2 days – Winter camp ( Fast track batch)
Programme season – summer, winter camp (open for all )
Medium : Offline class in Zoo
Course kit will be provided
Course kit : Zoo ambassador themed Jute bag, cap, badge, notepad, pen, Animal book of Vandalur Zoo, Assignment worksheet, Zoo ambassador certificate and Zoo passport which comprises 10 free visits to the Zoo for one year.
Registration fee – Rs 1000
Programme subject – Mammals, Birds, Reptiles,fishes and Butterflies
Mammals – Mega herbivores, antlers, antelopes, omnivores, carnivores, big cats, small carnivores,
primates
Birds – Forest birds, aquatic birds, Predator birds, Exotic birds, flightless birds, Raptors.
Reptiles – Turtles, tortoises, snakes, lizards and crocodiles (Indian and exotic reptiles)
Butterfly – Nectar and host plants, butterfly identification
Zoo Ambassador is a first-of-its-kind programme initiated at AAZP in the year 2018. It is also the flagship programme of the country recognized by the Central Zoo Authority. In this programme, students get exposed to various facelets of the animal kingdom in separate sessions on Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Fishes and Butterflies. The sessions are mentored by veterinarians, Zoo Biologists and Zoo educators.
So far 4000 Zoo ambassadors were titled by the Zoo

Green Skill Development
Criteria : Depend on the programme
In the year 2019, a Certificate course on Bird Identification and Basic Ornithology was conducted by Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Zoo School under the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) in coordination with the Department of Environment and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Changes. This course provides an opportunity for school dropouts and graduates to develop their skills and enhance their knowledge in bird identification and basic ornithology.
Zoo In-house training
Target audience – Government officers, probationary trainees, professionals, forest department officials from TamilNadu and other states, Zoo officers or keepers and other department staff
Eligible - Only to Government staff
Programme season - Throughout the year
Zoo In-house training provides a great platform for the trainees to understand and enhance their skills and knowledge in the broad spectrum of Zoological parks, forest and conservation education.
Virtual Zoo Ambassador Programme
Target audience - School & college students
Eligibility – Class 5 & above, Degree
Subject - Wild Mammals, Birds, Reptiles and Butterflies
Duration - 4days
Time - 1 hour
Medium - Online
Virtual Zoo ambassador programme initiated during the COVID times. Interested school may reach us to take part in the virtual zoo ambassador programme.
How to participate: Schools need to book the slot three months in advance through Email. Paid registration
Special Themed Workshops
Target audience – All public
Eligibility – Age criteria are fixed based on the workshop
Medium : Offline or Online
Specially-themed workshops are conducted focusing on wildlife and its conservation theme, Workshops are mentored by professional field experts.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park is one of the most popular destinations for education field trips in the city. A special dedicated orientation session is conducted regularly. In the orientation session, students along with the teachers are sensitized on the importance of wild animals, the role and function of Zoos and the importance of conservation of wild animals & natural resources. Zoo Explorer Programme
Arignar Anna Zoological Park “Zoo Explorer” for school students. AAZP’s experimental zoo programme highlight to emphasis students to observe, learn and experience zoo with field based learning. This programme differs from other present zoo education programme. It is a school based programme. This programme will be organised only by coordinating with school groups.
Eligibility – Class 3 to 12
Timing – 10.00am to 3.00 pm
Course duration : One day programme
The school will be holding full responsibility on the personal care of the participating students including safety and security.
- One teacher for 10 students should be allocated and the teacher to present along with the student through the programme
- Zoo will make arrangement for transportation inside the zoo premises
- Students should bring their lunch, snacks, fresh cut fruits, drinking water, painting materials if any required.
